Pretty cool, and wouldn't have expected it. Any idea whether the group has any connections to the Laestadian revivalist religious movement? It thought they might based on where Lordi grew up and on some of the lyrics.

Heh,

just for the record -

as I have stated already earlier in this blog, Lordi's music has pretty much zero poäng appeal to me, but in the context of Eurovision Song Contest this was really interesting and great nevertheless.

This was "9/11" of ESC: the institution will never again be the same. Although Lordi probably got some protest votes too I think the band's victory nevertheless reflected first of all a widespred need for certain kind of change in this cultural context of Europe. It is an end of an era and beginning of a new one in ESC now.

Witnessing that was great. Finnish monsters doing that with landslide record points most certainly appealed to my sense of humor with 12 poäng :-)

I still have pretty much zero interest towards the contest in general. The most interesting question would be however be about the nature of the next year's competition.

Will we see more metal or rock music? Or does everyone think that this was something that could work only once? However it may be I still think that there will be greater diversity music-wise.

Hi Korpinsilmä,

I still have pretty much zero interest towards ESC too. This year it was more interesting though, as some kind of dionysian irregularity (in Nietzsche's spirit) in European culture's metabolism, so to say. I consider that as an interesting sign in the current of European culture :-)

My guess is that ESC will now have a greater variety of music styles and so forth... I would like to see Keuhkot there the next year! :-)

I, for one, confess to be a Eurovision fan since the age of 11, liked Lordi's first hit single and video in 2002, and after this glorious victory most assuredly danced and danced and danced to Hard Rock Hallelujah with other likeminded maniacs during the night.
